Work experience for real life: Sleepy Eye students on the job

It’s an old joke - or complaint - that students graduate high school knowing that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell but without knowing how to balance a checkbook, write a resume, or prepare for an interview. Fortunately, Sleepy Eye’s On the Job Training program (OJT) has stepped in to fill the gap between school and real life by coordinating local businesses willing to host students who are interested in gaining work experience.

SEU Football

The second year of Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s co-op football team began with a 22-14 victory against BOLD on Aug. 28.

Cross Country

The Cross Country team is a coop with Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, Sleepy Eye Public, and New Ulm Cathedral. St. Mary’s is the host school. Head Coach Lisa Hagen has been with the team for nine years, the past eight as head coach. Ann Christensen is the assistant coach.

Volleyball roundup

A home game against MVL on Tuesday, Aug. 26 ended in victory for the St. Mary’s Knights, while Sleepy Eye Public Indians’ away game against Loyola resulted in a loss.
