During staff workshop week at Sleepy Eye Public School it is a tradition to announce the Sleepy Eye Education Association’s Teacher of the Year. Kylie Koerner was honored with the award.
The Cross Country team is a coop with Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, Sleepy Eye Public, and New Ulm Cathedral. St. Mary’s is the host school. Head Coach Lisa Hagen has been with the team for nine years, the past eight as head coach. Ann Christensen is the assistant coach.
Brown County Dairy Princess Lauren Steffl was a Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalist and had her likeness carved in butter on Sunday, August 24.
Greetings from the Dyckman Free Library! We have had a wonderful summer with an increase in the total number of checkouts, the highest we have ever had for June and July. Book check outs were 6,194 and e-books/audiobooks were 705 for those two months!
Sleepy Eye Public’s 2025-2026 school year kicked off with the addition of two new faculty members.
The Sleepy Eye FFA chapter members had many different roles at the Brown County Fair August 6-10. The members showcased their crop, mechanics, Ag. literacy, and livestock projects and also helped run the FFA safety games and FFA shows at the Brown County Fair.
The Sleepy Eye City Council discussed the fence ordinance in the city code at their meeting on Aug. 12. The first reading was called for on amending the fence ordinance to change required setbacks on corner lots and on adjoining lots. City Attorney Alissa Groen also suggested a more detailed description of what constitutes a fence. The council asked her to research what other cities and the League of Cities have in their fence ordinances. She will bring the information to the next meeting when a second reading could be considered.
The final Yard of the Month for this summer is the yard of Mike and Amy Mages.
