It was a beautiful evening to race on Thursday, Oct. 9. The Madelia meet had a new course that our team was excited to conquer!

Cross Country team hosts meet on lake trail
Our home meet was Thursday, Oct. 2, with a beautiful course around the lake in Sleepy Eye. It was a hot 90 degrees and dry, making the course more challenging than last year. We had a mixture of new personal records and others who became sick due to the heat. Cross country is a sport for those who enjoy a true challenge.

Cross Country
We finally had a nice cool cross country meet at the Tri County Show Down hosted by Mt. Lake on Saturday, Sept. 27. The morning meet followed a beautiful trail around the lake in Voss Park, Butterfield. Despite the soybean dust that coated the air from the nearby field being harvested, we had fantastic results; 100% of our varsity athletes hit their season’s best times!

Runners compete against the heat
The Windom meet on Sept. 15 was our hottest meet of the year thus far. With temperatures pushing 90 degrees, the cross country athletes had an entirely new challenge added to their races. Once the gun went off, and the heat hit the runners, we saw several athletes from different teams drop out during the races and some physically negative effects took a hold of many athletes — including our own.

Runners achieve great time in meet at NYA
Weather conditions were perfect for Tuesday’s [Sept. 9] meet at Norwood Young America. The course is a beautiful wooded path through Baylor park, making it a favorite for our runners.
Cross Country runners beat the storm
We had an exciting meet at Tracy on Sept. 4. Thirteen teams participated in races that raced the forecasted weather events! Due to impending storms, the Tracy school administration decided to combine the boys and girls in each race, creating only three events — Division C (Jr High), JV and Varsity races. Division C ran 2000M with Elizabeth Fischer placing 6th for the girls and Josemaria Martinez leading the boys with a 19th place finish. All of our Division C athletes have improved their paces significantly in the last two weeks.
