Sleepy Eye 16/18 ASA softball team starts season with two wins

The Sleepy Eye 16/18 ASA softball team kicked off its season with a couple of games last week. The first game was on Tuesday, June 15 at Prairieview Park in Sleepy Eye against the Mankato Misfits. Lacey Mathiowetz and Julia Helget split pitching duties while Kya Krzmarzick handled the catching. Kallie Zarn led the team with two singles and two RBIs. Megan Ahlness and Kenadi Steffl each hit a single with Ahlness also having one RBI. Krzmarzick contributed two RBIs while Maddie Hose had one. Sleepy Eye got five of its eight runs in the 6th inning. The final score was 8-2, with Sleepy Eye coming out on top.

On Thursday, June 17 the team hit the road for a game with Jackson. Megan Ahlness and Julia Helget covered the pitching with Kya Krzmarzick again doing the catching. The Sleepy Eye bats were hot during this game. Helget and Allie Labat each had a double, a single, and two RBIs; Lacey Mathiowetz went 4 for 5 with four singles and two RBIs; Kallie Zarn contributed three singles with four RBIs, while Kenadi Steffl added three singles and one RBI. Maddie Hose and Bella Hoffmann each added  two singles and two RBIs, Grace Bauer hit two singles while Kya Krzmarzick and Maya Nelson each hit one. Ahlness drove in one run. The final score for this game was 27-3, giving Sleepy Eye its second win of the week.

The team has two home games this week, at Prairieview Park, on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.
