Tomahawk East League set to begin season Friday

The long awaited return of local amateur baseball will come to an end Friday night. After the state of Minnesota opened up competitions for youth and amateur sports Friday, June 19 the Tomahawk East League quickly got together and created their new regular season schedule. The schedule is set up for 12 games per team with the regular season beginning Friday, June 26 and ending on Sunday, August 2.

The 12-game schedule is spread out throughout several weekdays. Gamedays include Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights. All games During the week will begin at 7:30 while gametimes on Sunday’s are generally 2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m., or anytime the two teams can agree upon. With no more than three games per night, this allows the league to give umpires flexibility.

On Friday, June 26 the Sleepy Eye Indians will play at the Stark Longhorns and the Gibbon Reds travel to face the Hanska Lakers

Sunday’s schedule includes four games. Leavenworth travels to Stark for the annual Stark Benefit Game. The Fairfax Cardinals make their Tomahawk East League debut by hosting the Springfield Tigers on KNUJ Radio at 5 p.m., the Essig Blue Jays play at Gibbon at 2 p.m. and also in action Sunday will be the Searles Grizzlies hosting the Hanska Lakers, also at 2 p.m.. The Indians were scheduled to host the New Ulm Brewers, but they will now host the Brewers on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:30 in Sleepy Eye. Lamberton and Courtland was postponed.
