Buttered Corn Days — still celebrating, just not in the traditional ways

From the Sleepy Eye Area Chamber
Commerce Board Directors
The Sleepy Eye Herald Dispatch

After much deliberation and responsible consideration, the Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce strongly feels that it remains important to celebrate our community and the rich history that Buttered Corn Days has always brought with it.

Our traditional ways of celebrating that included park activities, a street dance, rib cook-off and our always popular grand parade will not be happening this year on Aug. 21 and 22. However, we are evaluating all options to find alternative ways to celebrate locally, the tradition of Buttered Corn Days; and yes, ‘corn’ will be involved.

For updates and information on what we’re planning during August of this year and how to support our festivities, please check in to our Facebook page or our Buttered Corn Days webpage in the upcoming weeks.

Please know this decision was not made lightly, as we recognize the importance our celebration weekend holds for other nonprofits in our community and the impact it has on our local businesses, sponsors, celebration vendors and partners.

Given the unknowns of the COVID-19 situation, we feel it prudent and responsible to not hold this event in 2020, in the manner which we are all used to. The safety of our vendors, volunteers, and guests will always be our first priority for Buttered Corn Days. It is also vital that we protect the integrity of our events and the financial well-being of the Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce.

We thank our great many sponsors, vendors, volunteers and of course our far traveling visitors for your understanding and we hope you share our anticipation of gathering again together for the 60th Buttered Corn Days Celebration in 2021!
