50 years ago – Nov. 21, 1974
Senior citizens are reminded of the FREE evening of entertainment, fun and dinner that awaits them at the Orchid Inn Tuesday, Nov. 26. All that is asked is that you call 794-3211 by Monday evening. If you are able to come by your own means of transportation, just call and say you will be there. If you need transportation, just call and that will be provided by chauffeurs from the Sleepy Eye Fire Department. You can also call to have a FREE dinner delivered on Tuesday. “I hope people realize there is no cost to them whatsoever,” Don Stimpert, owner of the Orchid said.
Wonder how many television viewers are aware that Sleepy Eye High School is “on the air” weekly. Under the direction of Ed Blackstad, high school students can be seen on Sleepy Eye Cable TV, Channel 13, each Monday at 9:15 a.m. with international, national, and local news.
35 years ago – Nov. 23, 1989
City workers erected a Christmas tree at the intersection of highways 4 and 14. The tree was cut from Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital property where it was in the way of future construction. Santa Claus will be in town this Friday at 7 p.m. to have the honor of lighting the tree.
Sleepy Eye Veterinary Clinic has moved into its new home. According to veterinarian Marcus Berg, the move means better service than ever. It includes a new small-animal surgery area and the large attached garage features facilities for larger-animal surgery, Berg said. Other new features include the cat and dog kennels in the buildings basement. There is room for six cats and 10 dogs.

Sleepy Eye Police Chief Dave Seivert enjoys his work in Sleepy Eye. He has been employed with the department for five years, and was recently appointed chief, replacing Don “Pudge” Mickelson, who retired after 32 years on the force.
“Sleepy Eye High School students: What are you thankful for?” asked the Inquiring Photographer. Kat Busch said, “Having a nice home to live in.” Tom Hillesheim said, “My family.” Allie Mathiowetz said, “My friends.” Jacob Hillesheim said, “Girls.”

Lions Club Students of the Month are Sabrina Portner, a senior at St. Mary’s and Ken Capacia, a senior at Sleepy Eye Public. Sabrina plans to study animal science after graduation. Ken plans to attend a four-year college.
Junior high champions of the Sleepy Eye FFA Crop Show are Cassidy Hoffmann (Champion) and Ethan Fischer (Reserve Champion). Senior high champions are Hunter Rose (Champion) and Jon Mickelson (Reserve Champion).
