Geraldine “Geri” A. Johnson, 88, of Willmar, died Saturday, March 17th

Geraldine “Geri” A. Johnson, 88, of Willmar, died Saturday, March 17th at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Her celebration of life service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24th at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m,. Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to her service at the church. Burial will be in Ness Cemetery in rural Elbow Lake. Memorials are preferred to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. Geraldine Ann Johnson was born on Nov. 17, 1929, to Felix and Madeline (Kelly) Eischen in Mountain Lake. She grew up in Comfrey where she attended high school, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, she furthered her education studying Cosmetology. One day at the roller rink, Geri met and fell in love with her future husband, Harold O. Johnson. On Feb. 21, 1952, Geri was united in marriage to Harold. To this union, five children were born. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas and then to Finley, N.D., before moving to the farm near Elbow Lake in 1958. She eventually moved to Willmar where she built her house in 2000. Geri enjoyed staying home with her children, teaching them lifelong skills. Christmas was very important to Geri, every Christmas Eve she spent hosting her family. She enjoyed making lutefisk and lefse, ribs and sauerkraut, and also celebrating the birth of Jesus. She also enjoyed gardening (flowers and vegetables), quilting, and sewing magic pillows for her grandchildren and Christmas tree skirts for her children. Geri also enjoyed traveling. She and Harold took a trip to Norway where both of them studied how to speak Norwegian. She also took separate trips with her children to Ireland, she loved her Irish heritage. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Geraldine died on St. Patrick’s Day, she is survived by her children: Larry (Debora) Johnson of Birchwood, Wis., Diane (Bernard) Klaahsen of Glenwood, Peggy (Wendell) Dahl of Lake Lillian, Twyla Johnson of Willmar and Lyle (Christy) Johnson of Cottonwood; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister: Madeline Hounslow and sister-in-law: Marilyn Eischen and Jane Johnson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings: Robert Eischen, Maryellen Zimmermann, James Eischen and great-grandson: Andrew Klaahsen.
