Robert James Johnson, 87, of Sleepy Eye, died Sept. 24, 2017, at Fairfax Community Assisted Living in Fairfax. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Evan. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. The clergy will be Pastor Rebecca Krogstad. Interment will be at the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Robert was born Sept. 29, 1929 to Olaf and Alice (Beilke) Johnson in Sleepy Eye. Robert was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Evan where he was a lifelong member. He attended country school and then graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1947. Robert served in the Army from 1952 until 1954 during the Korean War. Robert farmed on the family century farm and also did custom crop spraying. He enjoyed reading, fishing, drives in the country, and later in life doing puzzles. Robert was a member of the American Legion in Sleepy Eye.
Robert is survived by his brother, Darwin (Carol) Johnson of Springfield; sister, Judy (Mike) Sandmann of Franklin; and nieces and nephews: Philip, Kahla, Karen, Diane, Teresa, and Brent. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David.
