The Indians sandwiched a win against Wabasso in between losses to Springfield and NU Cathedral.

The Indians went into their matchup with rival Springfield looking to prove they belong in the upper echelon of the 2019 Tomahawk Conference. Jacob Berg got the scoring started for the Indians in the bottom of the first, but that is all the Indians would muster against Tigers’ starting pitcher Henry Scheitel. Scheitel tossed six innings striking out two and allowing one run on four hits.

Springfield used two five-run innings to spin themselves to an 11-1 victory over the Indians.

Leading the Indians at the plate was Jacob Berg. Berg was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In game two, the Indians came out flat and had coach Aaron Nesvold searching for answers as to where his team’s energy level was throughout the contest.

Springfield scored one in the top of the first and the Indians responded with a run of their own to have the game tied at 1-1. The tie lasted until the top of the third when the Tigers plated three runs to take a 4-1 lead over the Indians. The Indians came back with a run of their own to make it 4-2, but the Tigers would use back-to-back three run innings in the fifth and sixth to take a 10-1 lead. Springfield tallied one more run in the top of the seventh and the Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to bring the final score to 11-6.

Matthew Sellner took the loss for the Indians. Sellner threw five innings allowing seven runs, five earned and giving up six hits and four walks with one strikeout.

The Indians are now 7-4 on the season. The Indians traveled to Wabasso on Tuesday, May 7 but due to a shorter deadline, those results will be in next week’s Herald-Dispatch. After Wabasso, the Indians host New Ulm Cathedral for a doubleheader on May 9 and follow that up with MVL the following Monday and Tuesday.
