Families flock to Light the Night event

Holiday Lights in Motion fans apparently wasted no time in making their first visit to the display in Sportsmen’s Park this year. A steady trail of vehicles traveled through the park on Thanksgiving night — opening night for the dazzling display. The entire weekend was busy at the park.

“In the first four nights we saw just shy of 1,200 vehicles pass through the park,” said Shari Hittesdorf, Holiday Lights in Motion co-chair. And, that was despite the drive through access being closed on Saturday night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. during the Chamber of Commerce’s Light the Night event.

“We close the park to vehicle traffic during Light the Night to welcome families to safely walk around in the park and on the park road,” said Chamber Executive Director Christina Andres. “We had about 400 people attend the event and enjoy that experience.”

Hittesdorf said the YES! Team will host a free concession stand this Saturday evening, Dec. 1 and horse-drawn wagon rides will resume Dec. 7 and 8.
