FFA Members of the Month for October are Adam Johnson, Maddison Helget and Trisha Ludewig. Officer of the month is Paige Romberg.
Adam Johnson is an eighth grader at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for two years. He joined FFA because his parents suggested it to him and it sounded like fun. Adam is on the Poultry CDE team and he likes that he can learn more about poultry, particularly chickens, by being on the team. Adam’s SAE involves him raising 75 chickens each year. Instead of raising them in a coop, he raises them in a moveable cage that he moves every day so they can eat grass and grubs.
Adam’s favorite FFA activity is Timberland Camp. Something he would like to try in FFA is the trip to St. Louis for the Summer Ag. Tour. Adam has learned there are a lot more careers in agriculture than he previously thought. He is most proud of getting 11th place individually at Regions for the Poultry CDE.
Maddison Helget is a freshman at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for three years. She joined FFA to learn more about agriculture and how it plays a role in society. Maddison is on the Poultry CDE team and she loves her team members and the moments they have shared. She also loves being challenged with what she is tested on.
Maddison’s favorite FFA activities are the FFA Fun Nights and the Barn Dance. She is looking forward to trying a new CDE team, such as Small Animals or Floriculture, after she is done with Poultry. Maddison has learned a lot by being in FFA, such as parliamentary procedure, livestock, how crops are processed, and so much more. She is most proud of earning first at the U of M Invitational for two years in a row. Maddison is also proud of tying for first place individually and getting second place as a team at State Convention.
Trisha Ludewig is a sophomore at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for four years. She joined FFA because she thought it would be fun and her sister told her about all the fun things available in FFA. Trisha is on the Horse CDE team and she likes the girls on her team and how they work and study hard. For her SAE, Trisha works at the Care Center where she works with food and brings meals to the residents.
Trisha’s favorite FFA activities are Wee Deliver and Adopt-a-Senior. She would like to try the Small Animals CDE team and is looking forward to State Convention this year. By being in FFA, Trisha has learned to believe in herself more. She is most proud of her Discovery and Greenhand FFA Degrees.
Paige Romberg is a senior at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for six years. She joined FFA because she was told that it is a fun experience and a great way to meet new people. Paige is this year’s Chapter Secretary. She likes her officer position because she gets to make the meeting agendas.
Paige is on the Milk Quality CDE team and she enjoys her CDE because she likes her team members. Paige’s SAE involves her growing and selling sweet corn over the summer. She also has a second SAE of working at Schutz Family Foods.
Paige’s favorite FFA activity is the Summer Ag. Tour. Paige is most looking forward to competing in Milk Quality this year. By being in FFA, she has learned about the endless career choices in agriculture. Paige is most proud of getting first place individually at Regions and fifth place as a team at State Convention for Milk Quality. She is also proud of her Chapter Degree.
