Oct. 10 School Board meeting.
At their Oct. 10 meeting, the Sleepy Eye Board of Education heard the annual report from Dashir Management Services, the school district’s custodial and facility maintenance provider. In attendance were Dashir President Mike Nelson and Doug Domeier, Dashir Manager in Sleepy Eye.
Domeier reported on a number of projects the staff had completed over the past year, including: new flooring, paint and repairs in elementary restrooms; elementary lockers painted; replace carpet with tile flooring in an elementary classroom and the band room—Domeier said they are working on removing carpet from all the elementary classrooms; cafeteria was painted and LED lighting installed; new bleachers in the elementary gym and LED lighting in both gyms; installed windowless doors in high school classrooms for security; and new security cameras throughout the school.
Another upcoming maintenance issue that Domeier mentioned was also covered by Superintendent John Cselovszki in his report. The elementary gym has been scheduled to receive a new HVAC system and a new roof. Cselovszki said the bid documents are being prepared to go out in November, with work to be done in the summer.
Cselovszki brought up for discussion a request from the Comfrey school district to pair for football. The board was not interested in pursuing this.
The board approved a $7,500 stipend for Finance Director Amanda Boomgarden to cover the duties of the payroll clerk who is on a 12-week childcare leave. Cselovszki and Boomgarden said a payroll service company would be more expensive and still require Boomgarden to prepare the information.
The district’s Truth in Taxation hearing was set for Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
Donations accepted included $250 for the FFA from Lake Crystal Biorefining and $1,000 from the Sleepy Eye Lions Club for transportation to the elementary BizTown experience, this includes students from St. Mary’s also.
The next meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
