Donate blood in honor of 9/11
Sleepy Eye’s next Community Blood Drive is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Event Center. This is one week later than people might expect, but Jane Fischer, a member of the local committee, said the later date allows those who give Power Reds the correct number of days between the last time they gave at a Sleepy Eye community drive.
The American Red Cross stressed that blood and platelet donors of all blood types, especially type O negative and O positive, are urgently needed to replenish the blood supply following a critical summer blood shortage.
To make an appointment to give blood, call 1-800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org and enter: Sleepy Eye to schedule.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
Fischer encouraged donors to arrive on time for their appointment. “We ask they not be late, but also—don’t come 10 minutes early,” she said. “They’ll just have to wait anyway.”
Sleepy Eye’s blood drive committee was recently presented a certificate of recognition of the community’s commitment and dedication to the American Red Cross Premier Blood Partner Program. It was noted that Sleepy Eye collected 424 units of blood in 2017.
Plan now to give on Sept. 11 and help boost Sleepy Eye’s number even higher for 2018.
