The children Fred Bruckbauer visited the Sleepy Eye Baseball Park to see the plaque memorializing their dad.
The children of the late Fred and Kathy (Olson) Bruckbauer came to Sleepy Eye for the 50th Anniversary celebration of Steve and Lois (their aunt) Hillesheim. While here they made a stop at the Sleepy Eye Baseball Park to see the plaque memorializing their dad, who was Sleepy Eye’s greatest baseball player, according to Randy Krzmarzick. Fred Bruckbauer was a star baseball player for St. Mary’s High School and the University of Minnesota (in 1958 and 1959). He signed with the Washington Senators, who became the Minnesota Twins and pitched one time for the Twins, but an injury to his pitching arm—which he had been battling for a couple years—ended his baseball career. Sleepy Eye baseball fans have always been proud of Bruckbauer and thus the plaque at the ball field.
