The Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce has recognized a Business of the Year since 1985. Nominations for the award come from fellow Chamber members and are reviewed and voted on by the Chamber Board of Directors.
On Thursday, June 7, the Chamber of Commerce honored the 2018 recipient, the Sleepy Eye Medical Center, at the Business of the Year Appreciation Luncheon. The luncheon was held at SEMC, allowing their employees to also be treated to a delicious lunch—prepared by SEMC Dietary staff.
While presenting the Business of the Year award, Chamber Executive Director, Christina Andres, said the criteria for the recognition includes: 1) Be in good standing with the Sleepy Eye Chamber; 2) Have been in business for at least three years; 3) Have demonstrated a commitment to good business practice; 4) Have a dedication to making Sleepy Eye a better place by giving back to the community; and 5) Supports the economic development of the Sleepy Eye area.
Andres said SEMC was nominated with the following words of recommendation: “The Sleepy Eye Medical Center is a constant community presence through various events, educational offerings and in their support of surrounding businesses. The push for rental bikes to support health and leisure in the community was huge and something to build on. The doctors, nurses and staff are top notch and the pursuit of new technologies (3D Mammography plans) and services is only set to make their patient experience better.”
Andres presented the award to Kevin Sellheim, SEMC Administrator, who recognized SEMC’s staff for their dedicated work with patients and thanked the Chamber and all those in attendance for the award.
