I just like writing about sports.

My brain is fried.

You will notice that I have been tasked with writing some sports stories. It would be fun if that was all I had to do. Which, by the way it isn’t—be sure to enjoy our first Progress section this week.

The coaches have been great about sending game information. I don’t quite “get” the stats, but I do my best. Robbie, my colleague at our sister paper, the St. James Plaindealer, wrote a sports story for us. And, I reached out to our old buddy, Kip Kovar, for a picture of Tuesday night’s Indians boys basketball game. They were playing his own alma mater—Mayer Lutheran—one of the teams he covers at his job with the Herald Journal in his hometown.

It doesn’t jinx anything if I write about the Indians girls maybe playing in the state tournament does it? I mean, they do have one more game to play—against St. Clair this Friday night. I know as an athlete you should play them one game at a time and not be thinking ahead to the next one.

So, anyway, I’m not doing that. I’m just saying, if the girls are in the state tournament, I think I can get more pictures from Kip. He said he’ll likely be there anyway and I know he has a soft spot in his heart for those girls.

First things first, one game at a time. Sleepy Eye High School Activities Director Cory Haala sent me information on the Indians Section 2A title game against St. Clair at MSU-Mankato Friday evening.

Pre-sale tickets are available in the High School office or Community Ed office through 1 p.m. Friday. Cost is $4 for students and $6 for adults.

Cory said they will also attempt to do a fan bus, at $5 per person, elementary students would need to be accompanied by an adult. He’s not sure they will get enough interest in the bus, since most people don’t mind the drive to Mankato. Call the school for more information.

I really am a fan of high school sports. I really like sports in general. I like a lot of other stuff, too. So it’s not like sports is life for me. I certainly wish our Indian girls the best on Friday night. A run at the state tournament would be icing on the cake for them after this great season they’ve had.

Speaking of sports as life. Do you know anyone who loves sports, likes to take pictures, and can write newspaper articles? If so, send them our way. There will be an ad in this weekend’s Reminder for the sports reporter/staff writer position.
