Grassroots preparation for the 2018 elections got under way Tuesday evening when interested citizens throughout Minnesota gathered for precinct caucuses. Caucus goers discussed issues, chose delegates to upcoming county conventions and voted for governor in a non-binding straw poll.

According to reports of state results, DFLers attended caucuses in higher numbers than GOP voters. The same was true in Brown County. Brown County voters also matched up with state-wide results in their polls for governor.

Lori Sellner, Brown County DFL Chair, reported 122 attendees throughout the county. Tim Walz was the overwhelming winner with 95 votes. Greg Bartz, Brown County Republican Chair, reported 58 voters and said there were some additional people in attendance who either arrived too late to vote, or chose not to vote. Jeff Johnson received 30 votes, with 15 marking undecided.
