Sleepy Eye’s Red Cross Blood Drive organizing committee members were pleased with results of the Jan. 2 blood drive held at the Event Center. “We collected 111 units, awesome,” said Jane Fischer. Fischer said they really appreciated the use of the Event Center—and the coffee and set up help provided there by Lisa Steffl and Bob Marti. Other local businesses and organizations who assisted were: Arneson Distributing provided root beer, Schutz Family Foods provided carrots and celery, Grace Lutheran Church was in charge of supper, and KNUJ/SAM and the Herald-Dispatch helped get the word out about the blood drive.
Fischer said she and the other committee members, Linda Schueler and Rita Weiss, also appreciated all the donors and volunteer workers.
Special donor recognition goes to first time donor, Ray Walters and the following donors who reached the listed gallon mark: Leon Tauer - six, Dan Helget - 12, Linus Kral - 13, Howard Engholm - 17, Karen Sellner - 17, Joleen Huiras - 17, Steve Schotzko - 18 and Wally Windschitl - 18.
The next community Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. “We will be honoring Bev Bartz for the many years she has worked with Sleepy Eye Blood Drives,” said Fischer. “She’s been volunteering for about 57 years!”
