FFA members of the month for December are Jon Mickelson and Morgan Hoffmann; officers of the month are Courtney Sellner and Hanna Himmelman.

Jon Mickelson is a senior at Sleepy Eye High School and has been in the FFA for six years. Jon joined FFA because he wanted to meet new people and try new things. Jon is on the Ag. Mechanics CDE (Career Development Event) team because he likes learning new things about engines, combines and electricity.

Jon’s favorite FFA activity is attending the state convention. He is looking forward to receiving his state degree. Jon has learned about the different areas of ag. mechanics since joining FFA. The award Jon is most proud of was winning state for his Soils CDE.

Morgan Hoffmann is an eighth grader at Sleepy Eye High School and has been involved in the FFA for two years. Morgan joined FFA because it is a big part of her whole life. She never felt like she had to do it. She just always wanted to join because of the many opportunities. Morgan is on the Small Animals CDE team because she enjoys learning about dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and fish.

Morgan’s favorite FFA activity is going to the different camps. Something she is looking forward to is the animal carnival during FFA week. She loves seeing the kids faces when they learn about the animals. Morgan has learned that there are many opportunities in agriculture. Morgan's award she is most proud of is getting Reserve Champion Overall at the Jr. High FFA Crop Show.

Courtney Sellner is a senior at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s High School and this is her third year in FFA. Courtney joined FFA because she was in an Ag. class and Mrs. Hoffmann talked about all the things FFA does—so she decided to give it a try. She is a reporter on the chapter officer team, which she loves because she gets to inform others about all of the chapter’s accomplishments.

Courtney was on the Milk Quality CDE team, but plans to join the Small Animals CDE. Courtney enjoyed learning different facts and information about milk and cheese. She also enjoyed eating the good cheese, like mozzarella, when she was on the Milk Quality team.

Courtney's favorite FFA activity is the Kiddy Barn at the Brown County Fair, where she taught children about farm safety. Courtney is looking forward to the officer retreat, so she can get to know her members on the officer team better. Courtney has learned all kinds of information on large and small animals—starting with identifying different breeds, to how the animals digest their food. The FFA award that she is most proud of is her National Milk Quality Team medal.

Hanna Himmelman is a senior at Sleepy Eye High School and this is her third year in FFA. Hanna joined FFA because she wanted to be more involved in her high school and many of her friends encouraged her to join. She is secretary on the chapter officer team. As the secretary, Hanna enjoys taking notes at meetings and writing agendas. She also loves to type so being the secretary is the perfect position for her.

Hanna is on the Nursery and Landscape CDE team because she enjoys learning new things about subjects many people do not know—like being able to name all the maple trees in Minnesota.

Hanna's favorite FFA activity is State Convention. She is looking forward to the officer retreat so she can bond and create better friendships with her fellow officers. Hanna has learned many aspects of agriculture. She also has learned how to use tools and identify various types of plants. Hanna's award that she is most proud of is getting to go on stage at State Convention because her CDE was one of the top five teams in the state.
