Hoops for Hunger, the Knights of Columbus sponsored 3 on 3 basketball event, was held for the third year on Dec. 27 at St. Mary’s School. Organizer Kevin Currans said, it was their biggest year with 32 teams, from 11 different schools. Students from grades three through eight participated. Currans said they don’t keep score, just play for fun and to raise money for food shelves. “Bruce Woitas has always allowed our group of 22 volunteers to use the school's courts to make this happen,” said Currans. “We had teams from Fairmont to Sibley East and Tracy to New Ulm. We raised $1,920 which will be donated to the food shelves in Sleepy Eye and New Ulm.” Each team paid a $60 entry fee—all for the food shelf donation.
