Mankato took control of the game in the first inning with one run and again in the second with another. Sleepy Eye got runs in the bottom of the second and third innings. Mankato’s big inning came at the top of the fifth when they scored ten times—taking the game in five innings, during which time Post 7 went through three pitchers, ending on Andrew Rose who stopped Mankato’s streak.

Post 7 faced a more even match on Monday, June 19, at home. New Ulm Blue struggled against the Sleepy Eye boys at the beginning of the game, with Post 7 holding a one-run lead. New Ulm came back in the top of the sixth to pull ahead, 5-4. Carter Brinkman (3-5, 1 RBI) scored off a base hit from Sean Salfer (1 RBI) to tie the game up. New Ulm took the game in the eighth, with one run. Alex Woitas lost on the mound, but went 1-2 at the plate with two RBI. Zach Haala went 2-2.

Post 7 will play Fairmont at 7:30 p.m. at Fairmont High School on Thursday, June 22.
