Springfield will tell “The Story of the First Christmas” for the 31st season. The outdoor pageant under the stars will be presented on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. Riverside Park. The pageant tells the story as Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem, find there is no room in the inn, and arrive at the stable for the birth of Jesus as angels hover and proclaim the Good News. Shepherds watch over their flocks. Wise men arrive on camels. Outstanding features of the pageant are a majestic chorus, a live manger scene with a variety of animals, special lighting and effects, and a natural outdoor setting in the midst of a Minnesota winter. The pageant is a production of the Springfield Area Nativity Theatre Association (SANTA), a not-for-profit organization. The pageant is endorsed by all Springfield churches whose members give generously of their time and talents to make the pageant possible. Admission to the pageant is free—a gift from the community of Springfield. There is ample seating in the north bleachers. Dress warmly and comfortably, and feel free to bring stadium blankets and warmers. The Burnstown-Brookville 4-H Club will serve hot beverages and assorted bars at the Springfield Area Community Center following the pageant both nights. The public is invited to enjoy the treats, warm-up and socialize with cast, crew, members of the local community and visitors. Everyone is welcome.
