Members of the Sleepy Eye FFA competed at the Region VI FFA competition in Pipestone on Nov. 21.
On Monday, Nov. 21, the Region VI FFA competition for the Milk Quality Career Development Event (CDE) was held in Pipestone. The Sleepy Eye team earned first place in the region out of 12 teams. Team members are Sarah Rossbach, second place individual; Isabella Portner, third place individual; Karlie Ries, fourth place individual; Lauren Klein, fifth place individual and Courtney Sellner, sixth place individual, out of 51 individual competitors. In the Milk Quality competition members detect defects in milk, judge milk fat content, identify cheeses and their characteristics, rate CMT (California Mastitis Test) tests, take a knowledge test on milk marketing and production and do a problem solving activity. Everyone on the team will be advancing to state competition.
The Region Fish and Wildlife contest was also held in Pipestone on Nov. 21. Sleepy Eye team members are Lane Trebesch, third place individual; Landon Strong, 14th place individual; Colton Gemmill, Matthew Sellner and Jon Mickelson. The team placed third out of 16 teams and 73 individuals, advancing to state competition. For the Fish and Wildlife contest, the members are asked to identify specimens of mammals, fish, birds and insects, as well as take a knowledge test.
