Music in the Park was held last Thursday, coming up are Party in the Park, Buttered Corn Day and Great Grassroots Gathering.

The second, and final, Music in the Park event was held in Allison Park on Thursday evening, July 14. The Sleepy Eye Concertina Club provided the musical entertainment and SouthPoint Financial Credit Union served as the event sponsor. Popcorn and 1919 Root Beer were served for a free will offering. The donation went to the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization.

Music in the Park is just one of several community activities that are held in Allison Park. Next week, the evening of Thursday, July 28 from 5 to 8 p.m., is the annual Party in the Park. Patterned after the national night out program, Party in the Park is sponsored by the Sleepy Eye Police Department and the Chamber of Commerce.

Local organization and public safety agencies come together at Party in the Park to provide an evening of fun, food and information. The party serves as a fundraiser for some of the participating groups, so be sure to bring a little money along and join the fun.

One of the highlights is a 6:30 p.m. drawing for two bicycles at the Police Department’s display. Kids earn entry to the drawing by being awarded a “safe biking helmet ticket” from the police, so local kids are encouraged to get caught by police, wearing their helmet, when biking.

Allison Park is the location of several 5K runs and walks, from early spring on through the summer, and of course, two big events are coming up in the park: Buttered Corn Day on Friday, August 19 and Great Grassroots Gathering on Sunday, September 25.
