On Monday, March 7, Sleepy Eye FFA sent six students to Jackson for region officer interviews. Courtney Engholm was elected as president and Isabella Portner was elected secretary for the 2016-17 Region VI FFA Officer Team. These girls interviewed against other region officer candidates, including Cassidy Hacker, for the coveted leadership positions. Currently Courtney and Isabella are the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter Reporters.

Becoming a region officer helps FFA members be more active in the FFA beyond the chapter level. Serving on an elite team of FFA members simulates working with others in a professional work environment. FFA helps teach specialized skills in hundreds of agriculture career areas. Opportunities such as this can add up to big life achievements.

McKenzie Cselovszki and Josie Lang served as the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter voting delegates for the region officer interviews. They heard from all candidates, nominated candidates for office, and voted on the 2016-17 Region VI officer slate.

Harley Braun, current Chapter President and current Region Reporter, attended the event as well. Harley and the other current region officers helped to “calm” the candidates, met them and discussed region officer duties.

Harley also participated in the Job Interview Contest, placing third. The contest consists of applying for a job that is appropriate for a teenager as well as providing a cover letter, resume, application and participating in a personal interview.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter wish Courtney and Isabella luck in the upcoming year as they serve the members of Region VI.
