Seven Sleepy Eye United golfers played in the Class A State Golf Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday this week at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker. The girls team of Liz Schwint, Meriden Andres, Sam Price, Chloe Walter, Jaci Domeier and Kiara Murphy, along with individual qualifier on the boys team, Carson Erickson, played in hot conditions Tuesday.
St. John’s Church held their annual free Soccer Camp last week with about 50 kids participating. The mornings included skills and drills, snacks and a time for devotions, and finished with scrimmages. The Stark Rookie Baseball team traveled to New Ulm on June 11 and 12 to compete in the 10U, class A division of the River Rat Classic. They started off Saturday morning defeating Lake Crystal Welcomme Memorial 14-5. Game two saw them take down Eagan 20-4. They finished the day with another nice win over New Ulm, 15-4. These three wins put them into Sunday’s championship game against New Ulm. The strong hitting and pitching continued on Sunday as they won the championship game 19-3 over New Ulm. The team is coached by Adam Fischer, Matt Mathiowetz, John Pelzel, and Chad Armbruster. Carter Brinkman, a 2018 graduate of Sleepy Eye High School, recently completed his baseball season with the Division 2 Winona State University Warriors. Brinkman started and played in all of their games, batting clean up this season.
On Saturday, July 23 the Sleepy Eye Golf Club will host their 6th annual Sleepy Eye Invitational. For each of the past five years, about 50 golfers have come to Sleepy Eye to play in the Invitational.
The Sleepy Eye United girls golf team punched its first ticket to the state tournament since the co-op formed in 2016. Trailing by four strokes heading into day two of the Section 2A tournament at North Links in Mankato on Monday, June 6, the SEU girls were determined to get the job done.
