The Stark Longhorns got the win over Maple Lake, 9-8, in the first round of the Class C State Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 20, played in Dundas. The win advances Stark to play the Bemidji Blue Ox on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. in Faribault.
After losing to Hanska in their first game of the Region 2C baseball playoffs, the Stark Longhorns battled all the way back through the losers bracket and defeated Leavenworth, Searles, Courtland, Springfield and Lamberton to earn a spot in the Class C State Baseball Tournament. Stark’s first game is at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, in Dundas.
Deb Moldaschel Sleepy Eye’s Jr. Legion baseball team came away from their State Tournament appearance last week as the Consolation Champion.
The GFWC Woman’s Club met July 19 at Sportsmen’s Park. The guest speaker was Dave Theneman, past, president- of Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Boating & Bobbers. Theneman told about the history of the organization, formerly known as Let’s Go Fishing—an organization that folded about five to six years ago. He said with the sponsorship of the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club the Sleepy Eye group formed Boating & Bobbers. A new pontoon was purchased and paid for through donations. They take groups of nine people at a time for a pontoon ride and fishing on Sleepy Eye Lake.
The Sleepy Eye 16/18U softball team won the Minnesota Softball HS State Tournament Tier 3, played in St.Louis Park on July 23 and 24. They finished league play 12-1-1 and took first in the Rising Star Tourney silver bracket, June 25 and 26. Sleepy Eye finished the season at 23-5-1. Submitted The Rural MN 11U Baseball Team, consisting of players from around southwest Minnesota and based in Redwood Falls, won the 11U Division Championship of the Sioux Falls Summer Shutdown Baseball Tournament, July 30-31. Adam Braulick and Jaxon Saenz, from Sleepy Eye, played on the team.

The Sleepy Eye VFW baseball team completed their season in the District Tournament this past weekend, with two wins and two losses. First up was New Ulm Silver on Friday evening, July 22.
The Sleepy Eye 14U softball team took second place in the Tier 4 State Tournament on July 24, losing 4-3 in the championship game against the Rochester MN Stix. Sleepy Eye finished the season with a record of 32-5 and won both the Hutchinson Class B tournament and the Southern Star tournament during the season.
