This week, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10 and 11, several Sleepy Eye athletes competed in state tournaments. Tournament play was not complete until after this issue of the Herald-Dispatch was printed.
Randy Krzmarzick’s Herald-Dispatch story about Dominic Sellner’s 1975 grand slam homer that gave St. Mary’s the DIstrict 10 championship, was so well-received, that Krzmarzick agreed to follow-up with a picture of the beer blast arranged to commemorate the occasion, 50 years later, at the Sleepy Eye Brewing Company on June 6.
After sending Springfield to the Section 2A elimination bracket with a 3-0 win on May 27, the Sleepy Eye Indians met them again on June 4 in the final game of the elimination bracket. This time, the Tigers came out on top, 7-1, and then lost to New Ulm Cathedral in the Section 2A championship game.

Following are the River Valley athletes who advanced in their events at the Subsection track meet on May 22 to compete this Saturday in the Section 2A meet at Mankato West, where they will vie for a berth in the State Championships June 10-12 at St. Michael-Albertville High School. The winning time/distance is in parentheses.
