After Springfield defeated Sleepy Eye on Monday, July 21 to send them to the elimination bracket of the Jr. Legion Sub-State tournament, Sleepy Eye came back to win the next three games, against Luverne, Windom and Slayton, setting up another game against Springfield on Monday, July 28, played in Springfield. This was another win for Sleepy Eye, 5-4, which set them up for another game with Springfield on Tuesday evening (after deadline), in Sleepy Eye, to determine the champion of the American Jr. Legion Division II Southwest Sub-State — and the team who would advance to the state tournament.

50 years ago - July 25, 1975

The All-Stars representing the Tomahawk East League and the Corn Belt League converged at the Stark Ballpark on Friday evening, July 11. In the days leading up to the game, the weather didn’t look very promising with significant rain in the forecast. Fortunately, the rain didn’t impact the game as the teams just played through a shower which lasted about half an inning.

The Sleepy Eye Sr. Legion baseball team finished the Sub-Sub B tournament with a win over Wabasso Saturday evening at Riverside Park in Springfield. The win gave Sleepy Eye the No. 1 seed for this week’s Sub-State Tournament in Truman. Sleepy Eye will face Truman at 8 p.m. Tournament play continues Friday and Saturday and next weekend, Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26.

60 years ago - July 15, 1965

The 2025 Sleepy Eye Trap Team had 38 participants, down five from the 2024 season, this put us in the 5A bracket for competition.
