All high school spring sports have now started practices and the track and field team will be the first to start competitions. The River Valley Wildcats will compete at two early season indoor meets at Minnesota State University, Mankato — this Saturday afternoon, March 22 and again on Tuesday evening, March 25 and Monday evening, March 31 (a conference meet). Their outdoor schedule begins on April 3 at Mountain Lake and April 7 on their home track in Sleepy Eye.

The BOLD Warriors did as well as any team this year in bottling up St. Mary’s star player Morgan Mathiowetz, holding her to 16 points in the Section 2A championship – until the last 22 seconds of the game.

St. Mary’s played good enough defense in the first half of its Section 2A semifinal Monday against Martin County West to give up only 20 points by halftime. The encore was even better: The Knights allowed just 13 points the rest of the way in a 64-33 romp at Gustavus Adolphus College.
