The St. Mary’s Knights softball team is the first Sleepy Eye team to play an outdoors contest this spring.
CJ Surprenant BBE 70 SESM 63 On Wednesday, March 23, the 28-2 Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Knights boys basketball team, champs of Section 2, faced off against the 26-4 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars of Section 6 at the U of M’s Williams Arena for the Class A State Tournament quarterfinals.
The New Ulm Eagles girls hockey team held their season end banquet Sunday, March 27. Pictured are Sleepy Eye players with their awards: Brooke Arneson (left) received Big South All Conference Honorable Mention and the Team Cooler award which recognizes the player with the best work ethic throughout the year. Julia Helget received Big South All Conference, the Eagle award which recognizes the player who exemplified the program both on and off the ice, the Hobey Baker Character award, and All State Academic honors.

The River Valley Wildcats track team opened the season with an indoor meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday afternoon, March 26. The Wildcats are made up of athletes from Sleepy Eye, St. Mary’s, Springfield and Cedar Mountain schools.
On Friday, March 18, the St. Mary’s Knights were successful in their quest for the Section 2A Championship— and a berth in the State Tournament—when they defeated Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey, 62-40, in Bresnan Arena at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Indians recognized as Tomahawk Academic All Conference (10th, 11th or 12th grader with GPA of 3.75 or higher) are Lydia Huiras, Kadence Hesse, Brooklyn Moldan, and Kaydince Thoms. Submitted Receiving Tomahawk Conference All Conference honors are Brea Mertz and Kadence Hesse, and Honorable Mention to Kaydince Thoms.
