I think it might be a good omen for the Babe Ruth 100th Anniversary event that the forecast for Saturday is cool temperatures and a brisk north wind (adds to the cool factor). After all, when Babe Ruth played at the Sleepy Eye Ballpark on Oct. 16, 1922, it was unseasonably cool (actually cold, I guess).

Mayor’s Message

Blight continues to generate lots of interest and test the patience of neighbors who have to tolerate what they feel constitutes blight in their neighborhood. Blight raises the ire of those who have to look at it as well as those who feel their property values are being lowered because of that unsightly situation. I certainly can understand their frustration. I think I can speak for the entire City Council and the City Manager when I say, “We, too, want blight in the community to go away.”

I got my flu shot today (Tuesday). I went to Sleepy Eye Medical Center’s flu vaccine clinic at the Event Center and got the high dose for old people. I get a flu shot every year and I don’t believe I have ever had influenza—that’s good enough for me, so I will keep getting a flu shot and recommending it to others. My Daughter

Friends have asked why I haven’t written about my four-year-old daughter. Some know me as a doting dad and conjectured that I was too deeply in love to make fun of her. Incorrect. I only make fun of people I love. And golfers and pickle-ballers. Okay, I make fun of a lot of people. But that very much includes the ones I love. It’s how I show love. I admit it’s immature and there are better ways to show love. And yet… here we are.

What did you think about the wall to wall news coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s death and funeral? I was just going to write that I don’t know how to put my thoughts into words, but then I realized I was going to do it anyway. Just take it as confused words.
