It’s an old joke - or complaint - that students graduate high school knowing that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell but without knowing how to balance a checkbook, write a resume, or prepare for an interview. Fortunately, Sleepy Eye’s On the Job Training program (OJT) has stepped in to fill the gap between school and real life by coordinating local businesses willing to host students who are interested in gaining work experience.
Sleepy Eye American Legion Post 7 would like to congratulate Sleepy Eye Sr. Legion Head Coach Zach Haala on being named the Minnesota Legion Baseball Division II Sr. Coach of the Year for 2025.
Sleepy Eye’s Economic Development Authority board is currently fielding queries about 108 West Main St., a building the EDA currently owns.
The second year of Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s co-op football team began with a 22-14 victory against BOLD on Aug. 28.
The Saint Mary’s volleyball team started off their season strong with two victories. Head coach Karri Hoffmann attributes this team’s strengths to the players’ experience in working together.
Local Servicemen are looking into replacing a broken cable on the Vietnam-era Huey helicopter in Veteran’s Park.
The Cross Country team is a coop with Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, Sleepy Eye Public, and New Ulm Cathedral. St. Mary’s is the host school. Head Coach Lisa Hagen has been with the team for nine years, the past eight as head coach. Ann Christensen is the assistant coach.
A new year and a new team bring challenges, but head coach Sydney Geiger said that the players’ talent and energy will be the key to its success.
Greetings from the Dyckman Free Library! We have had a wonderful summer with an increase in the total number of checkouts, the highest we have ever had for June and July. Book check outs were 6,194 and e-books/audiobooks were 705 for those two months!
