Thirteen members of the Sleepy Eye FFA competed in the Roland Peterson Agriculture Education Science Fair held on March 13 at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. The Minnesota FFA Association uses this invitational as the Minnesota FFA’s Agriscience Fair. The highest-ranking FFA member or team of members with an agricultural project will advance to the national competition.
After hearing local county concerns about outdated human services software, State Representative Paul Torkelson (R-Hanska), who chairs the powerful Minnesota House Ways and Means Committee, said he is exploring ways to repurpose state funds to assist local agencies.
The SEHS senior class traveled to Orlando, Florida March 19-23. The group visited Cocoa Beach, Volcano Bay water park, Disney Springs, and the Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks.
The Sleepy Eye Lions Club Students of the Month for March is Caroline Currans, a senior at St. Mary’s High School. She is the daughter of Kevin and Marnee Currans.

Sleepy Eye Public School’s administrative transitioning process is coming to its finality by the end of this month. The district made the decision to do a shared superintendent structure with Cedar Mountain for the next three years. The school district decided to add a full time elementary principal that previously was part of the superintendent’s combined assignment. We have reached the final phase of the hiring process and identified six candidates that we plan on interviewing on Monday March 24. Our six finalist are: Crystal Ibberson Special Education teacher at New Ulm Public School, Laura Seifert-Hertling Director of Special Services at Fridley Public School, Jason Toupence Teaching and Learning Coordinator at NRHEG (New Richland, Hartland, Ellendale, Geneva), Kyle Leeson math teacher in Lake Crystal-Welcome-Memorial Public School, Keri Murphy a second grade teacher in Blue Earth Area Public School and Benjamin Westphal Dean of Students at Riverbend Education District in New Ulm. The candidates will have the tour of the town and the school prior to their interviews. We are looking forward to selecting a future leader of Sleepy Eye Elementary School.

The BOLD Warriors did as well as any team this year in bottling up St. Mary’s star player Morgan Mathiowetz, holding her to 16 points in the Section 2A championship – until the last 22 seconds of the game.
