Seventy-six Sleepy Eye FFA members traveled to the University of Minnesota campuses and State Fairgrounds, where they participated in the Annual Minnesota FFA State Convention. More than 5,700 FFA members, advisors and guests from throughout the state gathered for the convention April 29-30.

On April 23, the Sleepy Eye Public School Board accepted the resignations of Pat Stevermer, the community education director, and Kathy Ahlrich, the elementary school’s administrative assistant. Both women have a long history of dedicated service with Sleepy Eye’s public schools, as Stevermer has held her role since 1979 after serving as a home economics teacher and Ahlrich began working at the elementary school as an office assistant in 2002.
Brown County Human Services wants to join parents and our community in recognizing and appreciating the vital work of Early Childhood Educators and Child Care Providers. We invite everyone to honor these special individuals on Friday, May 9.

Fischer’s Sleepy Bison Grill and Sleepy Eye Brewing Co. are joining together for a fundraiser for Linda Seifert on Friday, May 9. Linda was diagnosed with Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma at the end of January and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments since. This is a rare form of brain cancer, the same cancer she battled 12 years ago.
Three weeks of school remain for the 2024-2025 school year. State testing is nearly complete and extra-curricular activities are in full swing. Graduation is Friday, May 16, 7 p.m. for Sleepy Eye High School and on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. for St. Mary’s High School.
This month has flown by as we were busy with paintings, story times, programs on circus legends, William Kent Krueger author visit, book club and holding our last Spice Tour of the year. But we aren’t done with activities yet! We are offering an after school jigsaw puzzle challenge on Wednesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. for kids ages 6-12, stop in or call to register.

More than 400 members and spouses, employees and guests of Brown County Rural Electrical Association (BCREA) gathered at the Sleepy Eye Event Center April 10 for the cooperative’s 88th Annual Meeting. A total of 247 members registered at the meeting.

On Monday, April 14, 13 Sleepy Eye FFA members traveled to Westbrook for the Region VI FFA Awards Banquet. Numerous members were recognized for their excellence placing first in the Region. In addition Lucia Martinez Paredes and Alex Confer were officially inducted into the 2025-26 Region Officer Team as Reporter and Student Advisor respectively.
