Forty-three Sleepy Eye FFA members traveled to Sibley State Park, near New London, from June 2-5. Sleepy Eye FFA Advisors Katie Emmett, Paul Hendrickx, and Alyssa Mitchell; Summer Intern, Meta Tewes; Camp Assistant, Morgan Hoffmann; along with several members from the Tracy and Mt. Lake FFA chapters also attended the camp.

The SEU Girls and Boys Golf Teams played in the Minnesota State Class A Golf Tournament last week at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
Vance Boelter, who grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1985, is charged with stalking, shootings, and murders in the case of the shooting deaths of state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and the shooting of state Senator John Hoffmann and his wife, Yvette, early Saturday morning. Found in Boelter’s vehicle was a list of Democratic lawmakers and others that he apparently intended to target.
At their June 14 meeting the Sleepy Eye School Board had a lengthy discussion and several rounds of voting among three designs for the new STORM mascot, finally approving the image pictured here.
The Sleepy Eye Public School Board of Education’s regular meeting was Wednesday evening, June 11 — after this issue of the Herald-Dispatch was printed and on the newsstands. A matter of public interest was to be decided at Wednesday’s meeting.
Randy Krzmarzick’s Herald-Dispatch story about Dominic Sellner’s 1975 grand slam homer that gave St. Mary’s the DIstrict 10 championship, was so well-received, that Krzmarzick agreed to follow-up with a picture of the beer blast arranged to commemorate the occasion, 50 years later, at the Sleepy Eye Brewing Company on June 6.
The Sleepy Eye Knights of Columbus donated money collected through their tootsie roll campaign to Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s schools. The campaign focuses on supporting individuals with learning disabilities and Special Olympics Minnesota.
