Don’t miss Sleepy Eye’s own community night out — Party in the Park — Thursday, July 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Allison Park. The annual event is an evening of citywide togetherness, put on by our public safety departments and community organizations.
We will publish our annual Play Ball section, featuring youth summer ball team photos, in the July 31 Herald-Dispatch. This is for the teams of the littlest kids, through the high school age teams.
The City of Sleepy Eye EDA, along with the Sleepy Eye Regional Foundation, is thrilled to announce we have been selected to receive a 2025 AARP Community Challenge grant in the amount of $15,000. Sleepy Eye is one of only 383 grantees selected (out of 3,450+ applications) from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
On Thursday, June 26, 29 FFA members visited a variety of places in the surrounding communities in order to learn about each and the career opportunities within them. Paul Hendrickx, Katie Emmett (Sleepy Eye FFA Advisors), and Meta Tewes (Summer Assistant) attended the tour as well.
Talan Helget was selected to play in the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches All Star Series, played on June 19 and 20 at Chaska Athletic Park. Talan was a senior on the St. Mary’s Knights baseball team this spring.
FFA members from throughout Region VI attended the Summer Ag. Tour to St. Louis, Missouri, from June 9 to 11. Members attended along with Sleepy Eye FFA advisors, Katie Emmett, Paul Hendrickx, and Alyssa Mitchell, as well as summer intern Meta Tewes and members from the Tracy and Mountain Lake chapters.
Brown County Dairy Princess Gracie Sellner helped children make butter at the June Dairy Month event at the Sleepy Eye Museum on Saturday, June 28.
Forty-three Sleepy Eye FFA members traveled to Sibley State Park, near New London, from June 2-5. Sleepy Eye FFA Advisors Katie Emmett, Paul Hendrickx, and Alyssa Mitchell; Summer Intern, Meta Tewes; Camp Assistant, Morgan Hoffmann; along with several members from the Tracy and Mt. Lake FFA chapters also attended the camp.
