Mayor’s Message, another appeal: scooter safety and blue-green algae

I know the information below on scooter safety has been repeated by many people and in many different forms of media. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be getting through. Too many close calls have been reported. Law enforcement and the city are limited to what they are legally able to do. I’m pretty sure the kids on the scooters are not going to report to the parents that they almost got hit by a car. They are more worried about getting the scooter taken away than their own life.

Summer Ag. in Action

The Sleepy Eye Summer Agricultural Education program has been busy over the months of June and July. Along with leadership and tour opportunities, short hands-on classes have been taking place at Sleepy Eye Public School.

Recent close calls highlight electric scooter safety concerns

Safety concerns regarding electric scooters have risen, according to the Sleepy Eye Police Department. In addition to privately owned scooters, Levy Electric scooters were made available to rent at Sportsmen’s Park in 2023 and can be used by anyone with a smartphone. Police Chief Matt Andres said that the department receives multiple calls per week from citizens reporting unsafe scooter activity.
