Today, I am writing my last column as Mayor. I knew that this day was coming, but I didnât think I would feel remorseful about it. I thought that I would feel a sense of relief and welcome it saying âWell, that job is done.â But, instead Iâm feeling a little melancholy. I guess I have to admit that most of the time I really did enjoy the position and the work that went with it. It was a job with the opportunity to give back to a community that has been so good to me and my family.

Sleepy Eye’s Police and Fire Departments are set to receive a total of nine new radios to help keep them connected to a statewide communication system for public safety personnel, with the lion’s share of the expense covered by a state grant.The radios – five for police and four for fire – will replace equipment that was nearing 20 years old in some cases.
