Miss Sleepy Eye 2023 is crowned

For the 76th year, Miss Sleepy Eye and Princesses were crowned - Sunday evening, March 12 at the Event Center. Mayor Wayne Pelzel gave a welcome to all in attendance and a thank you to the five candidates— Samantha Ibberson, Lacey Mathiowetz, Abigail Schwartz, Elizabeth Schwint, and Kenadi Steffl.

• City Manager Bob Elston and I met and discussed available lots for residential development and what the city might be interested in doing to get some condos and/or patio homes built. We will consider proposals from developers for possible projects.

Full speed ahead in 2023

It’s been a whirlwind of almost three months into 2023 here at the Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce. Our Annual Meeting back in February, celebrating our Chamber Member FRIENDS, was an amazing night of membership and community support. Deb from the Herald-Dispatch did a great job covering the night but to recap, we gathered with 135 individuals to honor our Shining Star Recipient - Shannon Schutz, our Social Media Standout Business – Powerhouse Nutrition, and of course remembering the energetic community spirit of Dr. Dean Brinkman, our Friend of Sleepy Eye recipient.

Brown County Dairy Princesses recognized at Farm Show

Recognized as Brown County Dairy Ambassadors (left photo), at New Ulm Farm-City Hub Club Farm Show on Saturday, March 11, are seated Rachel Portner and Madilyn Portner and standing - Shayna Sellner and Sidney Tauer. (Right photo) Crowned Brown County Dairy Princesses at the Farm Show are seated - Elizabeth Griebel and Sophie Kyllonen and standing - Gracie Sellner, Lauren Steffl, and Emma Fischer. Sellner and Steffl are considering participating in the Princess Kay weekend in May, which is a leadership event and judging process to select the Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalists. Princess Kay is crowned just prior to the Minnesota State Fair in August.
