The GFWC Qui Vive Club met May 4 at Shirley Cannon’s home. Ma-Donna Sellner, assistant manager at Nex-Tu-Nu-II, spoke on recycling and reusing items donated to the business. Items on display and not sold after four months are picked up by truck and taken to the Twin Cities where they are put to use. Many out-of-town people come to shop at the store. There are also a number of opportunities to volunteer at the store, such as running the cash register, bagging, sorting, and more.
The Servicemen’s Club presented a donation of $10,000 (from their Charitable Gambling fund) to the City of Sleepy for the Police and Parks departments project to place security cameras in the parks. On Saturday, April 22—Earth Day—the Brown County Chapter of Pheasants Forever (BCPF) held its annual Habitat Day by cleaning up a couple of Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). BCPF is part of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources “Adopt-a-WMA” program. BCPF has adopted all the WMAs in Brown County.
