School board approves a number of personnel changes

Among other personnel actions approved at the District #84 School Board meeting on April 23, were the retirements of two long-time school district employees: Kathy Ahlrich, Elementary Administrative Assistant at the end of May; and Pat Stevermer, Community Ed. Director at the end of June. In addition, Business Manager Amanda Boomgarden’s resignation, effective April 11, was approved.

City makes another property sale

Monday at noon the Sleepy Eye City Council held a special meeting for the second reading and approval of an ordinance to sell Lot 6, Block 1, Sleepy Hollow Fifth Addition to Dennis and Sharon Fromm. The lot, located in the city’s development south of St. Mary’s Street and west of 12th Avenue NE, is on St. Mary’s Street NE, across the street from Home Cemetery. City Manager Bob Elston said in an email that the purchase price for the property is $53,000. The first reading of the ordinance was held at the council’s regular meeting on April 21.

Sun shines on Easter Egg Hunt

After a few years with cold, wet weather forcing the Easter Egg Hunt indoors, it was once again held at Allison Park on Saturday morning, April 19. Still chilly, but the sun was shining on the fun! Kids hunted for plastic eggs filled with treats in the park, sectioned of by age group. The Easter Bunny was there to greet the kids and pose with any who wanted photos. The Miss Sleepy Eye Ambassadors were also on hand to hand out Easter Egg shaped candy and pose for photos. The Sleepy Eye Easter Egg Hunt is sponsored by the Sleepy Eye Medical Center and SouthPoint Financial Credit Union.

SECT brings Broadway to Sleepy Eye

Sleepy Eye Community Theater members wowed audiences during their two sold-out shows last Thursday and Friday with their “Broadway and Brews” production at Sleepy Eye Brewing Company. The show featured 19 cast members, including some from New Ulm and Springfield, performing 17 choreographed selections from famous musicals and entertaining more than 80 ticket holders each night.
