Sleepy Eye bags governor’s 2024 pheasant opener
Sleepy Eye has been selected to host next year’s Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener, a two-day event that will draw statewide attention to the city.The Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce applied to host with the approval of its board members, Executive Director Christina Andres said.“They agreed that they thought this would be a great opportunity for our community and to shine a large spotlight on all that we have here,” Andres said.Gov.

New bridge open over Minn. River
A $4 million project to replace the century-old, weight-restricted one-lane Hale Bridge over the Minnesota River northwest of Sleepy Eye was completed in late September.The new two-lane crossing – from County State Aid Highway 8 in Brown County to CSAH 3 in Renville County – is 28-feet wide and has no special weight restrictions, Brown County Highway Engineer Wayne Stevens said.The previous span was built in 1918 and restricted as a 5-ton route that could only handle one direction of traffic at a time.
