Breath of fresh air: Lake gets new system to keep fish alive

Workers have removed Sleepy Eye Lake’s deteriorating aeration system and replaced it with a new network of pumps and lines to oxygenate the water and avoid fish kills in the winter.The Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club donated $10,000 last spring to pay for the new system, which uses smaller, more efficient pumps and four lines to deliver air to the lake instead of the two lines the old setup had.The original system was installed in the late 1970s and was breaking down, requiring piecemeal repairs in recent years.

As deadlines loom, EDA seeks action from building owner

Frustrated by the lack of progress they’ve seen on the old city hall building on Main Street since selling it for redevelopment, the Economic Development Authority said this week it will begin to press the issue with the owners who purchased the property in early 2022.The EDA’s agreement with Catherine Haala and Seth Weinstein of Hannah Real Estate Partners requires them to restore and renovate 108 Main St.
