Farmers enrolled in the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP) saw nearly double the profits of non-certified farms, according to recent data from the Minnesota State Agricultural Centers of Excellence.
The quiet early morning of May 8 in Sleepy Eye, was punctured by the sounds of firetruck and ambulance sirens at 7 a.m. in response to a house fire in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue NE. Sleepy Eye Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to the scene.
State Senator Gary Dahms (R – Redwood Falls) and State Representative Paul Torkelson (R – Hanska) invite area residents to attend their joint town hall meetings on Thursday, May 22 in Sleepy Eye, New Ulm, Springfield, Redwood Falls, and Belview.
The Sleepy Eye learning center closed for good May 2 due to several factors, the most significant being staggering hike in insurance premiums.
Two people flown to Twin Cities for treatment
On April 23, the Sleepy Eye Public School Board accepted the resignations of Pat Stevermer, the community education director, and Kathy Ahlrich, the elementary school’s administrative assistant. Both women have a long history of dedicated service with Sleepy Eye’s public schools, as Stevermer has held her role since 1979 after serving as a home economics teacher and Ahlrich began working at the elementary school as an office assistant in 2002.

On Saturday afternoon, April 26, a special presentation was made to two local veterans, at Veterans Park in downtown Sleepy Eye.
Among other personnel actions approved at the District #84 School Board meeting on April 23, were the retirements of two long-time school district employees: Kathy Ahlrich, Elementary Administrative Assistant at the end of May; and Pat Stevermer, Community Ed. Director at the end of June. In addition, Business Manager Amanda Boomgarden’s resignation, effective April 11, was approved.
