A reminder of Sleepy Eye parking ordinances

I would like to remind everyone about the parking ordnances in town both on a normal day and when a snow emergency is declared. The ordnance in town is that a vehicle must move every 48 hours. To comply with the ordnance the vehicle must leave the block to have considered moved. Going out every two days and rolling it forward one foot does not satisfy the ordinance.

Worship: A New Year’s Resolution

We hear a lot about new year’s resolutions this time of the year. Now, more than at any other time, people think about making changes in their lives. This often involves things like getting more exercise, eating healthier foods, or spending more time with family. Or people focus their resolutions on accomplishing a specific goal related to work or home. These resolutions almost always have one thing in common. It is not just any change in our behavior or life, but a positive one. We make such changes believing this will improve our life, our health, or our relationships. This is a good thing.

Minnesota Starwatch for January

In January Venus emerges from its short trip between Earth and the sun to become a “morning star.” It begins a rapid climb over the southeastern horizon in mid-month, making its way toward much dimmer Mars. Try looking just before the sky starts to lighten on the 29th. Venus will be to the upper left of a thin waning moon and Mars will be between them, but closer to the moon.

2021 weather summary from the UMN SWROC

Lamberton, Minn. – 2021 was a year of limited precipitation during the growing season at the University of Minnesota Southwest Research and Outreach Center near Lamberton. Total annual precipitation for 2021 was 23.66 inches. This was a departure of minus 3.70 inches from the historic average. The year’s largest rain event was on August 29 with 2.17 inches recorded. There was only 2.33 inches of precipitation recorded for the period of June 1 to August 22 resulting in a severe shortage of soil moisture available for crop growth. The normal precipitation for this same period is 10.01 inches. Above normal precipitation from the middle of August to the end of September allowed for a recharge in soil moisture.

Snowplows and snowblowers can damage meters and cause gas leaks With the recent snowfall and icy conditions across many areas of Minnesota, CenterPoint Energy is reminding its residential and business customers to keep their outdoor natural gas meters clear of snow and ice in order to prevent a leak or service interruption. Although designed to withstand winter weather, your outdoor meter has a vent that regulates gas pressure and it must not be blocked by snow or ice to work properly.
