With warmer weather on the way, we all will be rushing to our local watering holes for some fun in the sun. However, according to Safe Kids Worldwide, drowning is the leading cause of death among children between the ages of 1 and 4 years old and the third leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children 19 and under. There are some important reminders and guidelines to keep in mind before jumping in.

SE FFA Excels at State FFA Convention

Fifty-nine Sleepy Eye FFA Members traveled to the University of Minnesota campuses and State Fairgrounds, where they participated in the Annual Minnesota FFA State Convention. More than 4,700 FFA members, advisors and guests from throughout the state gathered for the convention from Sunday, April 24 through Tuesday, April 26.

Mayor’s Message

The long awaited results of the lake survey done by Dr. Bryce Hoppie of Minnesota State University Mankato over the past year saw the light of day last Friday, April 29, at a presentation done by Dr. Hoppie in the City Council Chambers. Attending the presentation were members of the Lake Improvement Committee, representatives from BCSWCD and the DNR, City of Sleepy Eye personnel, representatives from the Water Resources Council at Minnesota State University and students from St. Mary’s High School.

Good things are happening at Koozie Group

You may pass by an unassuming building on Highway 4 as you drive south out of town without realizing what exactly goes on there. April EDA update

The April EDA Board Meeting consisted of discussions on the following items. Bob Elston updated the Board on the status of the apartment building project with Alliance Building Corp. The purchase agreement and the development agreement have been signed. They have requested information on local contractors as they now begin to gather bids and get ready to start construction. We are hoping to see some building activity begin in about a month. This will be approximately a one-year building project depending on the weather, material supply availability, and contractor schedules.
