Memorial Day program Monday

Sleepy Eye’s traditional Memorial Day program will be held on Monday, May 30, starting with Flag Raising at Veterans Park in downtown Sleepy Eye at 9 a.m. From there, the program will move to St. Mary’s Cemetery for Flag Raising and Invocation. The next site is Home Cemetery for the full program with a Memorial Address by Anthony Sellner and placing of wreaths for veterans of the wars and placing of flags for comrades departed since last year.

Knights party like it’s a Caribbean night!

A large crowd came out to enjoy another - the 7th annual - successful Caribbean Knight Party on Saturday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic School. Live music by Sandra Lee and the Velvets provided entertainment along with games, drinks, good food, and a silent and live auction. The grand prize winner of the raffle drawing for $4,000 (or Caribbean trip for two) was David P. Hoffmann from Starbuck. Submitted

School board agrees old greenhouse can come down

At the May 11 meeting of the Sleepy Eye Board of Education, Superintendent John Cselovszki reported to the board that the Ag. Advisory Board had discussed the green house—a covered hoop structure that is in poor condition. Ag. instructor Mary Hoffmann was in attendance and asked the board for permission to have it taken down. Hoffmann said it had been there (behind the school) since before she came to teach at Sleepy Eye. She said her program doesn’t use it and because there is no heat, electricity or water, it is not usable during the school year.

St. Mary’s Honor Society inducts new members

The St. Mary’s Chapter of the Minnesota Honor Society inducted new members Maya Nelson, John Miller, and Hannah Pelzel, at their induction ceremony on May 11. In order to be inducted, students need to demonstrate achievement in leadership, knowledge, service and character. The constant gift of HOPE

Welcome back to my little world. It’s good to have you. Again, I need to tell you a little more about my life adventure as it is really worth the read. Many of you know, I am from Hawaii, and we have two boys, Kai age 22, and Andrew age 26. Andrew moved to the University of North Dakota to pursue a career in Aviation Science, he has since earned his wings in Commercial Aviation and now he pursuing more education. Kai is just finishing up his studies in Kinesiology at the University of Hawaii.

Ambassadors visit Dyckman Free Library open house

The Dyckman Free Library held an open house on May 11 to showcase the recent renovations throughout the library. The Chamber Ambassadors posed with staff in the original part of the library, where the carpet was removed and the wood floors were refinished. Other work in the library included new carpet and furniture, new bookshelves, and a new checkout desk.
