Divine Providence hosts Red, White & Blue Parade

There was no lack of enthusiasm for Divine Providence Community Home’s Red, White & Blue Parade held Friday morning, July 1. Miss Sleepy Eye Royalty, SouthPoint Financial Credit Union representatives and a host of community friends decorated and dressed pets, wagons, strollers, and bikes to parade past Divine Providence Grandfriends in DPCH’s North Courtyard area. The Parade’s Grand Marshal, Aut Seidl, escorted by Miss Sleepy Eye Royalty kicked off the community’s Fourth of July celebration. The parade ended with patriotic treat bags and snacks provided to parade participants by DPCH, South Point Financial Credit Union and Schutz Family Foods.

Historical Society brings back fundraiser

After a two year absence due to the pandemic, the Sleepy Eye Area Historical Society (SEAHS) is bringing back their fundraising food stand. On Thursday and Friday, July 7 and 8, they will sell Walking Tacos and Hot Dogs in the Holiday Lights in Motion food stand at Schutz Family Foods. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. This event has been an important fundraiser for the historical society in past years.

Lions Club honors members

At their May meeting the Sleepy Eye Lions Club welcomed Lions 5M3 District Governor Gordon Mulder as guest speaker. This was also the club’s membership awards night and Mulder presented the awards, thanking members for milestone years of membership and service.

Community Education News

The Community Ed office in Room 109 at the Sleepy Eye High School is serving as the box office for the Sleepy Eye Community Theater this summer. Advance reserved tickets can be purchased 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through July 14 for “West Side Story.” The show will be staged at St. Mary’s Auditorium on Thursday, July 14, 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 15, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 17, 2 p.m.
