Happy 4th of July, everyone! We are so fortunate to live here in this great country and where we can appreciate the freedom and opportunity we have here. The fireworks were delightful and the area around the lake made welcome viewing for so many.
Tom Kuster, a retired college teacher, announced he is a Democratic Farmer Labor candidate for Minnesota House. He seeks to represent the people of District 15B, consisting of Redwood, Brown, and the northwest corner of Blue Earth counties.
The SouthPoint Financial Credit Union Foundation recently awarded a $1,500 grant to the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club. The proceeds of the grant will help further fund the non-profit’s installation of a well and bathroom on their trapshooting site.
Brown County Farmers Union, Brown County NFO, and the New Ulm Public Library will present a seminar on Evaluating the News on Monday, July 25. There is no cost, and the public is invited. The two-hour seminar will begin at 7 p.m. in the Sleepy Eye Community Center, 115 2nd Avenue NW. Doors open at 6:30.

Tuesday afternoon, July 5, the Sleepy Eye Police issued this press release about an incident that occurred that day around 1:30 to 1:45 p.m. A female teenage victim reported that a white male asked her repeatedly to get into his car while she was walking.
At the June EDA Board meeting I presented the financial reports for all of the EDA programs and pointed out that there was one loan this month that was paid off early. Alliance Building Corp representatives met with and updated us on the status of apartment complex and said they were planning on starting work the week after the 4th of July.
